Youth Empowerment through Solar Energy; 38 Graduate in Bamenda!

In the conflict affected Region of Bamenda Cameroon, a new wave of hope is emerging. 38 young individuals have graduated as Solar Technicians after completing the Community Action for Advancing Sustainable Development's (CAASDEV) Solar Bright Future program.

The North West Region of Cameroon has faced socio-political instability, leading to widespread unemployment and energy poverty. CAASDEV's initiative aims to address these challenges by equipping vulnerable youths with green skills.

The Solar Bright Future program provided intensive training in solar systems design, installation, and maintenance. Graduates gained hands-on experience and are now registered with the National Employment Fund for job placement and mentorship opportunities.

In an attempt to Empower Women and Marginalized Groups, the program prioritized inclusivity, with at least 50% of participants being women and 80% being internally displaced persons, returnees, or persons with disabilities. Graduate Ngum Mildred shared her determination to bring light to her community and challenge stereotypes.

CAASDEV plans to launch an investment readiness program and investment forum to support graduates in developing bankable projects and attracting partners. The graduates will soon lead projects to electrify off-grid maternity wards, improving maternal health outcomes.

The graduation ceremony symbolized a collective commitment to rebuild communities through resilience, innovation, and youth-driven solutions. CAASDEV's initiative demonstrates the potential for green skills to tackle unemployment, energy poverty, and climate change.
