Prof. Fru Angwafo III Re-Elected President of North West Regional Assembly

Prof. Fru Angwafo III has been returned as President of the North West Regional Assembly for a second five-year term, following an overwhelming endorsement by Assembly members during elections held on December 16, 2025. Standing on a single list, he secured 88 out of the 90 valid votes cast, underscoring strong confidence in his leadership.


In his acceptance remarks, Prof. Angwafo expressed appreciation for the renewed mandate and reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive and collaborative governance. He emphasized the importance of synergy between the executive bureau and the Assembly, noting that effective leadership requires collective effort. He pledged that the executive would diligently implement resolutions adopted by the Assembly while pursuing development initiatives that directly benefit local communities.

The re-elected President also highlighted the central role of unity, dialogue, and peace-building in advancing the region’s development agenda. Addressing traditional rulers and elected representatives, he reiterated the Assembly’s readiness to engage all stakeholders through strengthened community dialogue mechanisms and the Peace and Development Initiative.

Congratulating the Assembly, the Governor of the North West Region and State Representative, Adolphe Lele Lafrique, described Prof. Angwafo’sq re-election as a clear demonstration of trust in his leadership. He commended the outgoing executive for its achievements during the first mandate, particularly its emphasis on peace-building and its consistent defense of the interests of the region and its population.


Governor Lafrique further called on the new executive to intensify cooperation with state authorities in tackling ongoing security challenges. He urged sustained efforts to combat acts of terrorism, which he said aim to disrupt the daily lives of citizens, while expressing confidence that peace and stability would ultimately prevail in the region.

The executive bureau of the North West Regional Assembly comprises eight members. Four members from the previous mandate were retained, while four new officials were elected. Returning members include Prof. Fru Angwafo III as President; Ghejung Awunti, re-elected as Commissioner for Economic Development; and Prof. Sakah Fondufe Lydia, Commissioner for Health and Social Development.

Newly elected members of the bureau include Fon Nfor Amidu Nji, President of the House of Chiefs and Vice President of the Regional Executive Council; Prof. Anyambot Emmanuel Anya, Commissioner for Education, Sports and Cultural Development; Mvo Zenobia Ndum, Secretary I; and Fon Zofoa Abubaka Fuanfor Yung, Secretary II.


Several outgoing officials concluded their tenure, including Fon Yakum Kevin Teuvih, former President of the House of Chiefs; Prof. Fri Manyi Rose, former Commissioner for Education, who did not seek re-election; Kalak Flavius, former Secretary I, who also opted out of the race; and Fon Bahmbi III Mathias, who lost his bid in Menchum Division.
