RVCDP hold 5th Steering Committee Meeting, Renew Commitment to the Project!
The Rice Value Chain Development Project (RVCDP) has held its 5th Steering Committee Meeting in Bamenda. Presiding at the Meeting Wednesday September 3rd 2025, the Steering Committee President, Minister Gabriel Mbairobe expressed satisfaction for the strides made by the Project after the 4th Steering Committee and emphasized on the need to effectively implement the RVCDP in all targeted areas.
RVCDP Steering Committee Members
“The RVCDP is a very important project as it ties with the Presidential Plan for the Reconstruction and Development of the North West and South West Regions (PPRD). The Project targets the amelioration of living conditions of the population by providing and improving access to basic facilities like portable water, health care, rice production, among others. The RVCDP already has 4 donors with 2 donors awaited to make 6. This Steering Committee aims to include the participation of the remaining 2 donors and appreciate evaluation of the project on the field”. Steering Committee President.
H.E GABRIEL MBAIROBE.
President RVCDP Steering Committee
Minister Mbairobe reminded Steering Committee members of the importance of the RVCDP whose ultimate goal is to empower farmers and enhance food security in the North West Region and Cameroon as a whole.
The peculiarity of the RVCDP according to the Steering Committee President is that its headquarters is located in the project implementation area, unlike other projects with head offices in other towns. He therefore urged members to take advantage of this proximity to produce good results.
As key implementing partner for the RVCDP, Director General of the Upper Noun Valley Development Association (UNVDA) says they are ready to collaborate with the Project so as to boost rice production in the country.
“The UNVDA presently has 3743 hectares of swamp under development with some traditional fields and others needing rehabilitation. Production stands at 21 thousand tons in intervention zones in North West & West Regions. We highly welcome the RVCDP as it is expected to develop additional 2000 hectares of swamp land in Ndop which will positively affect our production. We continue to plead with Government to beef up UNVDA so we can be able to manage the 20 tons per hour rice mill to be acquired under the RVCDP”
ERIC ANDANGFUNG. UNVDA Director General
Rice Farmers Representative of RVCDP say the Project is timely as some of their needs are already being addressed.
“We are grateful for the RVCDP because we farmers have already obtained some inputs and basic seeds to produce certified seeds from the project. Improved rice seeds were already distributed aswell. We are particularly happy about this project as it will tackle land development which will help us improve rice cultivation as channnels and water banks will be constructed under the framework of the Project”
NDICHENGOH SALIFU
RVCDP Rice Farmers Representative.
The Steering Committee meeting rounded up with members unanimously taking a commitment to be fully involved in the execution of the Project within its lifecycle.
