Bafut Launches Community-Led Road Rehabilitation Initiative!

The Bafut Council has taken a groundbreaking step towards improving rural infrastructure with the launch of a community-centered road rehabilitation initiative.

On September 21, 2025, the council officially commissioned a newly acquired road grader, marking a significant milestone in the municipality's efforts to address decades of road neglect.

For years, Bafut's severely degraded roads have hindered local agriculture, restricted access to essential services, and increased transportation costs. The introduction of the grader aims to transform mobility, productivity, and social development in the Region.

The initiative is built on a community led approach, with the grader placed under the guardianship/management of His Royal Majesty Fon Abumbi II at the Bafut Palace.

A multi stakeholder Caretaker Committee has also been established to manage the graders use, ensuring accountability and inclusive access to all.

Bafut's innovative approach blends t

Traditional Authority structures with modern municipal Governance, offering a promising template for rural development.

Local Civil Society Organizations have welcomed the initiative and are preparing to monitor its impact.

As one trader noted,

"This is the first time we are seeing action, not promises."

The successful implementation of this initiative could have a lasting impact on the lives of Bafut residents, improving access to essential services and enhancing economic opportunities.
